Start at a natural review point
Your renewal is an obvious time to review the policy because the declarations page and premium may have changed. You can also compare after a move, vehicle change, household-driver change, major mileage or vehicle-use change, or a new coverage need.
Compare when the facts change
A comparison is more useful when you give each insurer the same current information. Review the drivers, vehicles, garaging address, mileage, limits, deductibles, discounts, and policy dates before asking for quotes.
Do not switch on price alone
A new quote is only one input. Check coverage, exclusions, claims process, payment terms, cancellation timing, and whether the new policy is active before ending the old one. There is no universal shopping schedule that guarantees a lower rate.
